Amsterdam based chef turns to social media to get his quick yet informative videos noticed.

Dubbed the “world’s shortest cooking show,” Fish Tales is hosted on Instagram with episodes no longer than 15 seconds long. Hosted by chef and author Bart Van Olphen, the show teaches fans how to cook a complete seafood dish.

Olphen presents his snappy shows in markets, location kitchens and even outdoors by the sea and cooks a wide variety of dishes from classics such as ‘moules marinieres,’ to more modern recipes such as Mediterranean sauces to go with fried fish. He also creates super short documentaries focusing on sustainable fishing, informing his viewers about the catching process, the bait used and how to develop proper skills.

Olphen’s approach is perhaps a sign that consumers’ attention spans are shortening and that people want as much information given to them in as little time as possible.

Alongside his Fish Tales project, he also holds workshops in his hometown of Amsterdam, where he teaches people about the background of sustainable fish, how to clean them, basic preparation tips and how to make various sauce and sides. He then finishes off the lesson with a sit down meal together with a glass of wine.

Olphen has also written a wealth of fish-related books, again surrounding the concept of sustainable fishing and the global fishing communities he’s part of.
