Nike debuts line of thermal fashion as winter approaches

Runners beware: winter is coming. To combat the viscous cycle of layering and un-layering often associated with winter running and athletics, Nike introduces a new line of weather-smart clothing designed with athlete-needs in mind: the Nike Therma-Sphere collection. The basis of the line is rooted in thermoregulatory composite technology: a special material designed for cold weather training that aims to help athletes regulate their body temperature for optimal performance.

With a lot of players in the apparel industry boasting heat this and infra that, the Nike team shifted its focus from fashion to science, researching how a fabric can regulate temperature and breathability so the athlete doesn’t have to. The new fabric technology—a three-layer composite material—keeps the consumer both comfortable and dry while retaining a lightweight feel.
