Rather than compete with Facebook, Twitter has moved to news outlet section of App Store

After a disappointing quarter in terms of revenue and growth, the social networking site with 310 million active users has made an under-the-radar move in the App Store. Twitter is now listed as the number one free news application and not a social networking app, ahead of CNN, Buzzfeed and Reddit.

The move falls in line with the company's push toward live news with its Moments feature and Periscope live streaming. As a result of the change, Twitter may get more views and downloads and round up a more coherent brand vision surrounding news events.
