Göbie looks to build social connections through brief moments of prompted-yet-voluntary moments of playful interactions

Designed to augment social interaction by ‘catalyzing spontaneous and connected play experiences’, Göbie is a new take on wearables and their functionality. Developed for a time when ‘glued to our phones’ has become the norm, Göbie looks to build social connections through brief moments of prompted-yet-voluntary moments of playful interactions. And while it might look silly, the light hearted device promises to make us more mindful of our environments, the people that surround us, and our own mood.

Created by a group of designers and creative technologists with MFA’s from Parsons School of Design, the band of the arm piece makes use of haptic feedback, gesture recognition, and a visual LED language to help cue playful encounters with other Göbie wearers. Accompanied by an intuitive app that customizes towards people’s level of intro/extroversion, Göbie adapts towards user’s lifestyle while incrementally guiding individuals out of their shells.

By connecting to social media, offering easy-to-follow instructions and tracking your ‘wellness score,’ Göbie makes the world a little less predictable and a little more fun. Because ‘true health requires not just good physical condition, but psychological fulfillment’ too.
