Visitors new to Hong Kong's Old Town Central district have the opportunity to find illustrated QR codes in the area to start a tour

The Hong Kong Tourism Board wanted to think of a way to bring new visitors to the city's Old Town Central area, commonly known as the business district. Their solution? Posting QR codes in various places to show visitors various tours they can partake in! But before you think these QR codes resemble traditional black and white barcodes, think again! They have been transformed into colorful illustrations.

The Central district contains four tours: Tasting Hong Kong, Crazy for Art, Treasure Hunt and Time Traveler. Each tour focuses on a different aspect of the district, so the respective illustration spotlights the memorable sights of each district. When a visitor discovers one of the bright illustrations, they simply scan the QR code with their smartphone to get redirected to the Hong Kong Tourism Board webpage where the tour routes and information are listed.
