Timex's Fairfield Contactless watch contains contactless payment strips inside

American watchmaker Timex launched a new collection earlier this month in the UK called the Fairfield Contactless, combining the elegance of a traditional timepiece with some of the convenience of a modern smartwatch, namely contactless payments.

The watch is a result of a collaboration with Britain's Barclays Bank. Barclays already has a contactless watch solution called bPay Loop, which is a small payment strip which can be attached the waistband of any watch to enable contactless payments. The Fairfield, however, takes the idea one step further, using the same technology but hiding the payment strip inside the leather for a totally seamless look.

Timex is of course not the first company to enable contactless payments via a watch, but this is certainly one beautiful piece of hardware that maintains a more traditional look that some might prefer over the more modern, minimalist approach of watches from Apple or other companies. The Fairfield Contactless can be purchased now through Timex's website, retailing for £159. Timex watch owners who want to upgrade their old watches can also just purchase the straps.
