Half-Naked Man Guides You Through Cities In This Wacky AR App
When he isn't too busy dancing, HotStepper's underwear-clad assistant leads your to your destination
Sure, Google Maps can get you where you want to go, but does it feature a dancing half-naked man? HotStepper is a goofy new app from Nexus Studios that uses augmented reality in quite a unique way to give user step-by-step directions.
Enter any address and the app’s augmented reality sidekick will pop up to guide you, wearing nothing more than underwear, a cap, sunglasses and a pair of pink slippers. Despite his peculiar appearance (purple beard and all), he marches confidently down the street to guide users to their destination, and has a few special moves he will show you along the way.
Created to coincide with the launch of Nexus’ Los Angeles office, Hotstepper combines the latest in AR, geolocation and mapping technologies to render the character on user’s phones. To give your guide a more realistic appearance in various settings, the app utilizes dynamic shading and makes calculations about the position of the sun in relation to the character to properly render his shadow as he moves.
The app is available now for iOS with Android support to follow later.
