The popular search engine is using AI to warn travelers about likely flight complications

Google Flights is already a go-to platform for comparing airfare and planning a route. Now Google announced that it will be this convenience a step further with an AI tool that predicts flight delays, even before the airline can.

The Google Flights app was updated with a machine learning system that analyzes past flight information to foresee any complications that may occur with your upcoming trip. If the system is 80% sure the predicted delay will happen, it will flag the flight, giving a user notice long before the airline app would alert them. Along with the delay prediction, the app offers a detailed explanation of why they think the flight will be delayed.

The new feature also tells travelers who bought cheaper tickets with which amenities might not come with the reduced airfare—like limits for carry-on luggage or in-flight meals.
