Uber has been helping people get around for the last few years, but they aren’t stopping with the ridesharing model. The company partnered with Jump Bikes for a pilot service in San Francisco that allows users to access Jump’s electric bicycles through the Uber app and ride around the city.

For the next 18 months, Jump is providing 250 electric bicycles in San Francisco for Uber. If things are go well, it will add another 250 bikes to the mix, and Uber will look at expanding bike rentals to other cities.

To reserve a bicycle, users can simply open the Uber app and click on the bicycle icon, which will then reveal a map of nearby bicycle rentals. When they pick up the bike, they unlock the chain with a pin number distributed through the app.

The thing that makes the Jump service particularly useful is that you don’t have to drop off the bike at a docking station. You can attach the chain to any public rack bike rack within a specified zone, Uber explains in a blog post, making it easier to return the bikes and avoid going out of your way to use the rental.
