In Brief

Enjoy Life Foods specializes in "free from" snacks that cater to allergies, dietary restrictions and environmental concerns

Enjoy Life Foods began by making snacks that are gluten-free and safe for consumers with food allergies, but it’s not stopping there: The company is now the first in the United States to be certified as palm oil-free by the International Palm Oil Free Certification Accreditation Program. Enjoy Life specializes in “free from” foods to provide options for those with dietary restrictions, and it wants to do its part for the environment as well. Palm oil is the most common vegetable oil in the world, but its wide-scale use has led to massive deforestation.

Joel Warady, chief sales and marketing officer at Enjoy Life Foods, said in a press release, “Our goal is to demonstrate that there are opportunities to create delicious foods without having to utilize an ingredient that increasingly more consumers are looking to avoid.”

To start, Enjoy Life’s grain and seed bars have been certified as palm oil-free, with plans for its protein bars to follow suit in June. The rest of Enjoy Life’s items still contain palm oil, but in a sustainable form.
