Detroit-based startup Floyd offers same-day delivery on select home furnishing purchases

Floyd is a new startup that aims to expedite the often slow process of actually receiving your furniture after purchasing. While an increasing number of e-commerce companies have been launching same-day delivery services, the home furnishings sector has been reticent to jump on the bandwagon, and not without good reason—with thousands of SKUs (stock-keeping units) that change seasonally, furniture companies rely on large, centralized warehouses that are located far from customers’s residences. However, Floyd’s streamlined inventory allows it to establish fulfillment centers locally in its most popular areas, thereby providing fast, even same-day delivery for residents of major cities like San Francisco and New York.

The startup partnered with Darkstore, a tech company that specializes in providing fast delivery services by establishing local urban fulfillment centers, to achieve its same-day delivery option for select products. While some are dubious of Floyd’s ability to maintain quick delivery as the company and its inventory grow, the startup remains confident about its ambitious commitment to ease and speed.
