Bed Bath & Beyond’s AI Assistant Makes Introductions Between New Roommates
A.I.CEBREAKER is an email bot that sends an introductory email on the behalf of to-be roommates, helping ease the college move-in process as well as upping the retailer's digital engagement with one of its biggest demographics
Home retailer Bed Bath & Beyond is attempting to lessen the discomfort and awkwardness of introductions between new college roommates with its new AI assistant, appropriately named Andy Irving. Called A.I.CEBREAKER, the email bot allows incoming students to enter their roommate’s name and email address, and choose a “vibe” that sets their desired tone for the message.
Users can choose from options like “chill,” “professional,” “ALL CAPS” or “glitc%hy r0bot,” and after selecting their tone the system then deploys a short email on behalf of the sender. In addition to greetings geared toward future roomies, A.I.CEBREAKER also has options for emailing a secret crush, a party invitee or the owner of a car that the sender wants to borrow.
Bed Bath & Beyond plans to continue introducing new messages for different kinds of recipients throughout the year, like potential study buddies, spring break companions and friends with extra dining hall swipes during exam week. Reaching out to college students in this manner allows the retailer to build engagement with one of its biggest categories of shoppers, particularly through a campaign that connects with Gen Y on their preferred digital medium.
