In Brief

The pet retailer's PetCoach store will provide grooming, training, nutrition counseling and veterinary care among other services, also offering a membership-based option that gives customers monthly perks

Petco is trying out a new business model by creating the ultimate one-stop shop for pet care and upkeep. Located in San Marcas, California, PetCoach will provide the standard grooming and training services of the franchise, and it will also offer veterinary services, day care, and walking and nutrition consultations, all at a discounted price.

The stores will also offer a limited selection of merchandise found in standard Petcos. PetCoach charges a monthly fee of $9 to access these discounted services, expanding care options for pet owners.

PetCoach will lack traditional cashiers and checkout counters. Instead, pet coaches will act as assistants to ring customers up and help them set up appointments for any of their many services. With this new all-inclusive store model, Petco extends its functionality to customers as well as drives up its brand value through more personalized membership options.
