Saks Fifth Avenue is launching a dedicated chatbot to help holiday shoppers find the perfect gift. Called The Holiday Gift Guide, the chatbot will operate through the high-end retailer’s Facebook Messenger page, hoping to capture the attention of younger consumers who spend time on the social media platform.

Prompting customers with a quiz, the bot will guide shoppers through questions about who they are shopping for, inquiring as to gender and age as well as more specified questions like style and personality. Ultimately, all suggestions will be generated based off of the conversation between shopper and chatbot.

Along with this questionnaire function, the chatbot can also factor in items in the shopper’s user history on the Saks website into its suggestions. Overall, Saks’ virtual assistant is intended to reach younger mobile shoppers, targeting them on the platforms where they’re already spending a lot of their time and translating it into sales.
