The pharmacy's latest store concept will dedicate more floor space to medical supplies and allow visitors to monitor health stats on-site, part of its promise to improve customer health

Shoppers visiting CVS stores in Houston may notice a change in the layout of stores, as the retailer experiments with formats that better meet the expectations of today's consumers for value-added offers. CVS's HealthHUB store design will dedicate 20% of the space to health services and medical equipment.

Since the company's acquisition of health insurance provider Aetna, CVS has made a commitment to improving customer health. In addition to purchasing medical equipment, the HealthHub will also have kiosks where shoppers can check their blood pressure and BMI. Kevin Hourican, president of CVS Pharmacy, says, “We’re excited about how the combination of CVS and Aetna can begin to establish an innovative health care model that will create an entirely new consumer experience and help people on their path to better health.”

CVS reports that the initiative has so far received positive feedback. The company plans to continue a slow roll-out of the program in the Houston area and an expansion of the format if it continues to be successful.
